Actually, the idea of saving energy by switching off lights for an hour is well… ridiculuos. As what the website said:
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
Yes, true indeed. We are voting Earth for the election between planet Earth and global warming. At the same time, we are saving evergy too. In my opinion, although a lot of countries were participating, Malaysia seemed to be left out of the action. Since I was not at home to witness my neighbourhood shrouded by darkness, I took the opportunity by standing at the roadside looking everywhere and searching for houses which have their lights out. Sadly, only a very small number of houses actually had their lights out while the others kept their lights on as if nothing had happened. I didn’t think they even care. It was still a very young night and everyone was busy. One of my friends told me that he couldn’t even see without lights and candles were useless. He said:”If saving energy for an hour can really help, why not do it everyday?”
Since Earth Hour is being made globally for the 1st time, I think not many people are supporting it, especially in Asia. The only landmarks I can see without lights are The Twin Towers and KL Tower. To sum it up, Malaysia is clearly not concerned about global warming. Everyone in Malaysia, please wake up!
